Some of the most demanding tube and pipe products are produced using SImilcut equipment. We routinely cut API pipe grades to P110 and wall thicknesses from .060” [1.5mm] to .760” [19mm]. With the use of new high strength nonmagnetic bar materials designed using Finite Element Analysis we can typically cut a wide range of gauges, grades, and diameters with a single bar arrangement.
The cantilevered design means that in most cases, other than the cutting tool itself, there is no contact with the ID of the pipe. Wheels or other support or center devices are not required. Not only does this significantly reduce the possibility of marking the ID it eliminates the rolled in weld splatter that occurs with the use of a wheeled head. This also means far less maintenance and reduces the need to stock many high maintenance parts.
The outstanding feature of the SImilcut design allows the operator to adjust for size and depth of cut from outside the tube or pipe. This means that any cutting tool depth adjustment can be made while the mill is running eliminating the need to stop the mill and cut window to adjust the tool. This will greatly reduce mill down time and scrap.
Advancements in high frequency welder technology have allowed us to pioneer the use of new ferrite principles for ID cutting bars. We have been able to simplify the assembly while enhancing the cooling and flushing capacity of the ferrite and bar. This improves welding performance and greatly reduces the chance for weld spume build up on the bar. We can also offer the ability to easily adjust the position of the ferrite mass so fine tuning of weld power transfer to the weld vee can be accomplished.
Finite Element Analysis has become a cornerstone of our overall design process. It has become essential to run simulations on components. Along with newly introduced high strength non-magnetic bar materials we have been able to advance bar designs to meet ever increasing design challenges from our customers.
Although we have a standard size range of units it is almost always necessary to custom engineer each unit for its individual location and job requirements. This is done through plant visits and input from your operational, maintenance and production personnel. SImilcut will have highly qualified personnel follow a complete project from concept to installation and start-up. Continued follow up is done after start-up to assure our units are performing properly.
